“The world isn’t broken. It’s working exactly as it was designed to work. And we’re the ones who designed it. Which means we [...]” ...can re-design it.
I came across UX Design first during my studies of Business Information Technology at Edinburgh Napier University in 2017.
As romantic as it might sound now - I am certain I found my belonging back then. I am considering this my lucky path as I finally found my crowd. A world of research[ers], practitioners, who enjoy not only to challenge the way we work and live, but also take steps to re-design the related processes we already have in place ... or [in case of a total disaster] start over from scratch again.
Details are welcome, creativity is appreciated and the love for problems and challenging the current status quo is on the daily to do list.
Therefore, I can promise you that no matter what kind of project we will work on, the UX Design Process and practices will always have an impact on any work I do.
In case anything is ever not working the way it should be ... I am certain we can re-design it or find a new approach.
Let me dive a bit back into my own journey [map], which started approximately in 2008 with an apprenticeship in a five star Hotel in Düsseldorf, continued with Business Studies, working in Human Resources, to study Business Information Technology and back to analysing various Business Processes and implementing or developing software to leverage customer | student or employee experiences.
No matter where I have been so far, in the end of the day it has always been about designing experiences due to the following:
In an ideal world and to make our life easier, I always offer a free first virtual intro session. It is important that my working style resonates with you and your vision.
Throughout the project, but especially at the beginning of a new partnership, I like to invest time into building a qualitative relationship. This helps me to understand you and your situation better and also ensures we create a collaborative and safe environment.
"In any job that must be done, is an element of fun." - Mary Poppins.
If I cannot offer a certain service or meet your needs, I will communicate this with you directly and / or guide you to a colleague if I can.
Spending time together to understand the problem as best as possible. Time consuming research phase at the beginning to save time on too many re-iterations to get to the MVP stage later.
Defining the next stage with the use of our insights gained during the Discovery Phase. Re-framing the problem and defining the challenge in a different way.
Developing new solutions to the problem with the help of brainstorming, sketching, prototyping, wireframes, personas and testing Minimum Viable Products. This stage is allowing for exploration of various solutions and approaches.
Refining the most promising prototype from the previous stage into a final product. The final steps will include intense testing, validation and iteration considering the users feedback.
